Neil Gits Another Cough

Feb 03, 12 Neil Gits Another Cough

Well it is that time of the year ! Inevitably after a busy week of quiz nights and radio, the throat gave way and if you listen carefully to the repeat play of the show tomorrow evening you can the croaks coming in loud and clear towards the end !  However, as I always say, its all about the music and boy I found some corkers for you to enjoy this time. I introduced a new feature in the second hour of the show called “Philly Dips” which will take a couple of cuts each week from my much treasured 14-LP box set “The Philadelphia Story” and bring you some lesser known tracks fromsome of the great names from the famous 70s & 80s soul label. It starts with Teddy Pendergrass teaming up with an uncredited Stephanie Mills and follows up with a funky slice of gospel style soul from Patti Labelle.  Also on the show are three or four fabulously cheesy slices of 70s disco, a jazz-funk cover of a rock tune for the ”Old Gits Jazzy Bit”, some “Short Trousered Soul” from the early 70s days of Motown, a track that ISN’T by the Jackson 5 but really sounds as though it must be from the “rare groove” era and rarely played tunes by great names such as Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker & Luther Vandross.  All in all an ESSENTIAL soulful selection, available againthis Saturday from 5pm at Gateway 97.8FM and online right here !

This Week’s Tunes:

George Benson  -  Never Give Up On A Good Thing

Larry Graham  -  Sooner Or Later

Cashflow  -  Mine All Mine

Band AKA  -  Joy

Leroy Hutson  -  Lucky Fellow

Luther Vandross  -  A Better Love

Stevie Wonder  -  Overjoyed

Eric Roberson  – What Is Love Made Of

Galaxy  -  Head Over Heels

K C & The Sunshine Band  -  Keep It Coming Love

Anita Baker  – Squeeze Me

Mike Mandell – Peg

Foster Sylvers  -  Misdemeanor

Chic  -  Dance Dance Dance (Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah)

Full Flava feat Ce Ce Peniston  -  I Think About Him

Karyn White & Babyface – Love Saw It

Detroit Spinners  -  Could It Be I’m Falling In Love

Teddy Pendergrass & Stephanie Mills – Take Me In Your Arms Tonight

Patti Labelle  -  The Spirit’s In It

Supremes  -  Automatically Sunshine

Silver Convention  -  Fly Robin Fly

Gladys Knight & The Pips  -  Come Back & Finish What You Started

Candido  -  Dancin’ &  Prancing

Monday Drivetime!

Jan 30, 12 Monday Drivetime!

It may seem a bit bizzare posting this over 2 hours since the show aired, but I thought I might as well let you know I’m going to be doing Monday Drivetime on a “regular” basis!

So what does that mean? Well all the usual features will be in the show of course, 2 job vacancies, sport, showbiz, travel and national and international news – but I’ll throw in some different ones as well.

Something that goes great with the first day after the weekend, the box office figures – they get sent over, giving you an insight into the most popular local films. Another random one I tried today, was “Number one, but a few years ago” which today was ‘Mika – Grace Kelly’, from 2007.

I’m always thinking of random things to take for a whirl on the show, so don’t be surprised if you hear something that wasn’t planned at all!

Side notes: I tripped up an escalator today, before the show, deleted MySpace and according to Jade, who works at the station- I’m a “hipster”, purely based on this picture:

Allen & Heath XB-14

Hipster pic?

Anyway, I’ll let you be the judge of the whole “instagram” thing that I have going on recently. But most importantly, the thing you should take away from this seemingly pointless blog post is that:

A – You should listen to Drivetime from 4pm every weekday

B – You should listen to MONDAY drivetime’s from 4pm on . . . Monday, funnily enough!

That’s all for now, back next week! :-)

Chinese New Year on Coffee and Tea

Jan 28, 12 Chinese New Year on Coffee and Tea

It doesn’t seem a year ago that the lions invaded the studio but they came back and did it all again as part of the celebrations for Chinese New Year.

In keeping with tradition the lion ripped down the lettuce, which we had hung up in the studio, and digested it before then spitting it out again; giving something back – representing growth and good fortune.

You can see above what was left when it had all died down again and peace restored in the studio .

Happy Chinese New Year!
