Allium Garden & Property Services Weekly Gardening Guide
Plant up hanging baskets and leave them in a sheltered spot before hanging fully outside
Plant out potted alliums in groups to add interest to flowerbeds
Prune spring-flowering shrubs immediately after flowering. Such as forsythia, ribes, chameleons
Regularly water newly newly planted trees, roses, shrubs and hedging
Finish Planting out gladioli corns in groups of drifts in boarders
Spread shredded bark mulches around established shrubs and trees to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds
Feed tulips & spring bulbs
Tie in new shoots of blackberries and cane fruits to support wirer’s
Sow sweetcorn in deep pots, raising strong young plants to transport into the garden in June
Pinch off strawberry runners as soon as they develop, to stop them competing with developing fruit for nutrients
Earth up soil around emerging shoots which encourages higher yields
Sow seeds of the following croups outside this week, radish, spring onions, coriander, parsley and chives
Out up shading to reflect scorching sunlight and keep temperatures down
Open all vents on warm days, but close again in the evening
Order plug plants and seedlings by post, and pot up as soon as they arrive
Take leaf cuttings from house-plants, including African Violets, begonias and Cape primrose
Hang yellow sticky traps over plants to catch whitefly and flying pests
Sow seeds of herbs such as parsley, chives, coriander, garlic, basil. Dill, fennel, mint, thyme, sage, and lovage
Plant tender crops outside, covering them with cloches when night temperature fall
Dig out perennial weeds such as couch grass and bindweed, from boarders as soon as you spot them.
Wash dust off the foliage of house-plants, and apply leaf shine product to leafy plants
Take cuttings from hydrangeas, fuchsias, and penstemons, using the soft shoot tips
Feed house-plants weekly from now to autumn

Euro 2012 Squad Announced!
If you haven’t heard the Euro 2012 Squad already, they were announced on Wednesday. Sarah Wathan and Ayebea Crentsil joined me in the studio to announce the full list live on-air.
Few interesting names, most notably Rio Ferdinand, who hasn’t returned, but John Terry has, despite the race row allegations. Also, Steven Gerrard is the new England Captain.

The Saturday Sport’s Show returns this Saturday 19th May on the award winning Gateway 97.8 with Jimmy Lindsay in the studio.

We will be catching up on what’s been happening during the last week, plus news of what’s on in the coming week ahead.
Updates throughout the show from all the games, as the league soccer season winds down there are still a few issues to resolve. But don’t worry Euro 2012 is just around the corner 8th June.
This week it’s the Championship play-off final a place in the premiership is at stake, West Ham tough it out with Blackpool. Champions League final also, Bayer Munich play Chelsea. Rugby’s Heineken Cup final also.
There will be national news, and weather on the hour.
3-5 pm on Saturdays, you will find Jimmy Lindsay or Charlie Winch and the team in the studio bringing you truly local sports reports.
We will have local sporting guests in the studio, a few national sporting icons, Gerry Smith will bring up to the minute reports from local soccer matches when available, plus we”ll have the latest scores from all the big games and events.
This weeks guests are Basildon Sub Aqua Club, we have Cheryl Lambert (training officer), and Chris Holmes, an international free diver.

Weekend Breakfast with Jack Sullivan
Jack Sullivan is in the studio on Saturday 12th May with Weekend Breakfast, kick starting your morning between 9:00am and 12:00pm on your award winning station.
I’ll be waking you up and easing you into your day, with traffic and travel bulletins, news and weather, sports and showbiz round-up’s, chat and features, local events, and great music.
In the first hour, it’s Kelly’s Diary at 9:25am, so if you are looking for local events, then I’ll have all the what’s on, in and around the area. That’s followed by your first look out on to the roads and trains, with a Travel Update at 9:30am, your Showbiz round-up at 9:35am, and taking a look at the front pages of the newspapers at around 9:50am.
The second hour will contain your Cinema Listings for Empire in Basildon at 10:15am, with 3 films that I recommend to go and see. That’s followed by another Travel Update at 10:30am, your Sports round-up at 10:35am, and the TV Listings, If you’re just planning on staying indoors. May even do an artist back-to-back.
Then, the last hour is where I have On This Day In History at 11:15am, including the Number One Songs. Followed by Your final Travel Update at 11:30am, talking to Tyler Pittaway about Coffee and Tea, and The Local Chart at 2pm, to find out Who will be this week’s number one? Then I will be leaving the show with Things You Didn’t Know This Time Last Week, and maybe throw in some weird stories.
