Dean Macey joined Chris Martin on the Saturday Sports Show in the guests seat 25/07/09
Dean kept us amused with his stories from the Olympic, Commonwealth and World Athletic Championships. How many burgers can one man eat in a day?
Sorry to disappoint, but he never played for Arsenal, as reported in some journals.
We also discussed his venture into the world of bobsleighing, where despite not seeing a bobsleigh until just before the off, his team managed a very creditable sixth place, beating two other experienced British teams along the way.
Amazingly (with the Commonwealth games next year and 2012 looming) no one at the grass roots level has approached Dean with his wealth of knowledge as a highly experienced World class athlete, who made the transition from local to national athletics.
Being a very keen fisherman, we managed to talk a lot about his exploits, including carp to over 40lbs in England and a huge 180+ catfish caught abroad.
His current filming and TV exploits were discussed, including a Question of Sport.
So, what did we really find out about Dean Macey, well, he went to school on Canvey he was a world class athlete, he a good fisherman, and he is a genuinely nice down to earth guy.
We hope to see him again on Gateway FM.
